Q&A

What are you up to now?

My husband Eric and I have three kids, all current (or future) Spartans. We spend our time watching lots and lots of soccer because all three of them play travel soccer. We love to travel together and recently visited Stamford Bridge in London, home to our son's favorite soccer team, Chelsea FC. I still enjoy playing tennis and help with our Homestead girls tennis team. I love my job working in Human Resources where I get to create policies and programs that support overall employee well-being and development.

When I think about high school, I don’t think about one single moment. I think about the collective of four years — the days spent at tennis practice, time editing the Spartana, and the formation of enduring friendships I still hold today.

From freshman year on, tennis shaped my days. Making it to state wasn’t just a goal; it was an expectation we carried together as a team. Four years. Four trips to state. Each one different, each one meaningful.

Junior year, though, changed everything. I was diagnosed with cancer and suddenly, my schedule wasn’t just matches and editorial deadlines — it was appointments and treatment plans.

One moment stands out clearly: the day Dr. Hales, our school superintendent, drove me to Riley Hospital for a radiation treatment. It wasn’t part of his job description, but he showed up anyway. We talked about school, about tennis (Dr. Hales was a player himself), about normal things — and somehow that made the drive feel less heavy. It reminded me that I was still a student. Still an athlete. Still myself.

Those four years taught me that resilience is real, but so is kindness. I’m grateful for my time at Homestead and all the many friends and teachers who made an impact on my life.
